September 21, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 6 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Romans 3:24 Grace is the pure goodness and benevolence of a God who loves those who have fallen in sin. He does not want the sinner to perish but to be converted and receive eternal life. Grace is the kindness of a God who delights to give without receiving anything in return. "Being justified freely by grace" is something we never deserved. God owes us nothing, yet He makes this great gift. That is the essence of grace. How do we obtain this great gift that is offered so freely? It is possible only through faith, not through good works or any personal deserts. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Divine grace was revealed in its highest measure in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, when He tasted death for everyone (cf. . |
