Seeing through things

There is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13.

Seeing through things
Almost 130 years have passed since the physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays. Since then it has been possible to see through the human body to the benefit of many sick persons. Every part of the body can be X-rayed. There is, however, one thing that man cannot do: recognise and record what is concealed behind what is not purely physical, i.e. our thoughts, motives and feelings.

By means of hypocrisy, lying and pretending many can hide their true feelings and thinking without anyone noticing. Wicked, impure thoughts fill one's heart and go unnoticed. Do they? "Surely that is not so!" you may say. Yet it is indeed! Everyone can be seen through right to the depths of his heart - by God, his Creator. Everything has been recorded precisely, even secret thoughts and feelings.

One day the divine Judge will bring everything to light. So it is better to confess our sins to Him during our lifetime. Then we can be helped. Jesus Christ sacrificed His life for us on the cross of Calvary, so that we can put things right with God. Everyone who admits his manifest and his secret sins and puts his trust in the Saviour receives the assurance:

"I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud your sins. Return to me, for I have redeemed you" (Isaiah 44:22).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 5:1-31 · Luke 20:20-40
