Saying “No!”

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

Flee youthful lusts, pursue righteousness, faith , love, peace.

Proverbs 1:10; 2 Timothy 2:22.

Saying "No!"
Saying no is difficult, especially saying it loudly when opposing a majority opinion. Being different is not easy.

Some men have, however, said no. It was a no that changed their life and determined the course they took. Moses' future had been mapped out: he was considered to be the grandson of the Pharaoh who reigned over Egypt. He had power and riches. Yet he "refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin" (Hebrews 11:24.25).

In your case there are activities you cannot participate in and situations that you know are not good for you. So say no when someone wants to pass you off for what you in fact are not. Say no if the sense of God's statements is altered and doubts on the subject of the Word of God are sown in your heart. Say no when the devil seeks to entice you to sin, trying to make you believe that you can easily do it, as no-one will notice.

Say no if something is forbidden, even if it does not appear to have troublesome consequences, or if others scorn your reticence and laugh at you. Say no if anyone tries to lure you to a place where the Saviour could not go with you. Say no when evil tongues malign others before you. Say no to scandal and slander.

But never be too proud or haughty to say no. Say it simply and categorically from your heart with resolution.

Today's reading: Jeremiah 17:1-11 · Luke 23:13-25
