Your sin will find you out

Be sure your sin will find you out.

I acknowledged my sin to you, and my iniquity I have not hidden. And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Numbers 32:23; Psalm 32:5.

Your sin will find you out
Five years ago the media covered the trial of a man accused of horrific crimes. The matter went back some twenty years, but the suspect had not been brought to trial until 17 years later following the findings of a DNA expert. He had escaped justice for a very long time, but his sin caught up with him. It is not the only case where the guilty have been unmasked only after decades of research. There are indeed many cases that are never solved, and the criminals escape man's justice all their lives. No-one, however, will escape divine justice!

God is appalled over evil: moreover He does not assess it on our scale. All sin is an offence against Him and merits His punishment. He sees and hears everything and takes note of it. And He will one day bring all to light. At the end of the Bible one can read: "I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:12-15).

Don't hide away from reality! Your name could be written in the Book of Life today, if you accept God's forgiveness of your wrongdoings.

Today's reading: Jeremiah 23:16-40 · Romans 1:8-17
