A common objection

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16.

A common objection
A pastor once visited a home for young miners. He had hardly told them who he was, when one of them turned away with the remark, "I've left the church."

The miner's comment is commonplace nowadays. It can be expressed differently: "I've done with the church and priests." or "I'll have nothing more to do with a God who has taken away the person I loved most." But that is not the point.

The pastor replied, "What you have done doesn't matter to me. But there is one thing I do know, and that is that Jesus Christ died for you." The young man turned round and listened.

The point is that there is someone who loves you and died on the cross for you, and that is Jesus Christ. He said Himself: "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep" (John 10:10.11).

Such love is inconceivable, that the Son of God "gave himself for our sins" (Galatians 1:4).

"God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

"The life which I now live I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 44:1-10 · Romans 11:11-21

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
