The Christian’s hope

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13.

The Christian's hope
From the time someone puts his faith in Jesus Christ he is saved. He then has a hope which is an integral part of his salvation. This hope is "laid up in heaven" for him (Colossians 1:5) and belongs to him, whether he realises it or not.

In our everyday language hope involves uncertainty. But there is no uncertainty in Christian hope: "faith is the substance of things hoped for" (Hebrews 11:1). It is the assurance that we shall one day contemplate the glory of the Son of God and be like Him for ever (cf. 1 John 3:2; John 17:24; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Romans 5:2).

It also includes waiting to be with Jesus in the Father's house, where He has prepared a place for His own (John 14:1-3). The Father's house is the place of rest and security, a place where love reigns. It is the home of God's children, the final destination of their pathway here on earth.

The preacher, C. H. Spurgeon said: "Our hope in Christ for the future is the motive and basis of our joy on earth. Such hope will often enable us to think of heaven, for it is there that we are promised all that we can desire. Here we are weary and burdened, but the place of rest is above."

Our hope is founded on faith in the resurrection. Therefore even when mourning we do not "sorrow as others who have no hope" (1 Thessalonians 4:13.14).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 50:29-46 · Romans 15:1-13

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
