October 2, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 14:1-20 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 The leaders of the people had achieved their objective: they had crucified Jesus. Now He could "deceive" the people no longer, so they thought. However, the news that was spreading of the empty tomb soon crushed their hope. The leaders of the people were to get no rest. The disciples who had fled when Jesus was arrested now preached the resurrection courageously. And after only a few weeks, some 5,000 men had already been converted to the risen Lord. Peter and John, those fearless witnesses, were hauled before the chief priests and scribes to account for their testimony. But it only led to these men themselves proclaiming the gospel again clearly. Peter stressed the words of today's text before them, which makes it abundantly clear that salvation is to be obtained in Jesus alone, this message was not a fanatical illusion of some religious sect. The one true God, who has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, has "given" this Name alone expressly for our salvation (cf. ). We must be saved by the Name of Jesus. Because of their sins everyone is initially lost and needs to be saved from God's righteous, eternal punishment. But this text shows us the possibility of salvation through Jesus Christ. So it announces good news for us all: everyone must be saved - and everyone who wants to can be saved. |

Open Heavens for Sunday, March 2, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye NEGATIVE LIVING Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More |
