October 4, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 15:1-23 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. Acts 13:38-42 Thoughts on the Book of Acts (111) Through the death and resurrection of the Messiah, the grace of God was to be brought to His people. That was Paul's explanation to the Jews in Antioch with reference to the Old Testament. Man needs this grace in order to obtain the forgiveness of sins and be pronounced free of all guilt. Forgiveness is preached on the ground of Christ's atoning sacrifice; every believer can obtain it. No one could be justified by the law of Moses with all its commandments. On the contrary, the law unveiled the sin: that was its prime function. But it could promise neither forgiveness nor acquittal, nor give anyone the strength to avoid evil and do good. In Christ, there is forgiveness and justification: total absolution from sin. What a message! Now it depends on whether someone accepts by faith or else despises and rejects God's grace. This message forces us to make a decision: Paul left his hearers in no doubt about that. And they wanted to hear more on the subject. (to be continued next Sunday) |

He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More |

The Good Seed for Friday, February 25, 2017 by GBV Dillenburg GmbH Adam found an excuse: Jeremiah 17:9 In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More |
