Being converted

Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out.

Matthew 18:3; Acts 3:19.

Being converted
The story behind every conversion is unique and surprising. Let us study that of Paul, as it is described in the New Testament. Before becoming an apostle to whom important revelations were confided, he was persecuting the Christians who formed the church in its earliest days. But when the Lord revealed Himself to him, he made a right-about turn. From then on his entire life was devoted to the good of that church that he had wanted to destroy.

Conversion means looking to God and understanding that we have turned our back on Him and cannot validate any extenuating circumstances. We then have to continue our life, but in another direction, turning to God to serve Him (cf. 1 Thessalonians 1:9). This is inexplicable, but occurs for whoever comes into the light of our holy God, recognising his condition before Him and the judgment he deserved. The gospel tells of a man who, sensing how far he was from God, cried out, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner!" (Luke 18:13).

Conversion enables us to know the forgiveness of sins and receive new life, which Christ gives to those who repent. Jesus said, "You must be born again" (John 3:7). It is necessary to believe that "God sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him" (1 John 4:9) and that "Christ died for our sins and rose again" (1 Corinthians 15:3.4).

God compels no-one, but because He loves mankind, His wish is that all should change direction, be converted and enter the kingdom of God.

Today's reading: Joshua 2:1-13 · 1 Corinthians 1:10-17

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
