“He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7)

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in him I will trust.
Psalm 91:2.

"He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7)
Five years ago today a French couple were returning to France from their holiday in Toscany, when at 11.30 a warning light on the dashboard indicated engine trouble. It was pouring with rain, and there was a lot of traffic. The husband took the motorway exit just before a bridge in Genua. Surprisingly, the warning light went out; so they decided to take the motorway from the next junction immediately after the famous bridge.

Suddenly, they were phoned to discover where they were. They learned that the bridge had collapsed at 11.36. The husband declared, "Would we have been involved, or not? I do not know! But the viaduct was intact when we left the motorway, and it had already collapsed when we rejoined it."

What is certain: the warning light did not come on again that day nor afterwards. Had God averted the drama for them? If so, why for them and not for others? The question remains unanswered.

Every time the wife sees pictures of the wrecked bridge, she is affected and prays for the families involved in the tragic accident.

The couple affirm with conviction that, had they died at Genua, they would have found themselves in the presence of God, their heavenly Father. But since they are still alive, they like to help others to find peace with God through Jesus. Not being afraid of death is indeed true life!

Today's reading: Joshua 14:1-15 · 1 Corinthians 12:1-13

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
