Today’s verse from the Bible does not...

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation?
Hebrews 2:3.

Today's verse from the Bible does not state: How shall we escape if we reject or doubt so great a salvation. It says: if we neglect it, i.e. fail to heed it and do not bother about it.

Just imagine that someone has been bitten by a snake, but there is a serum that can save him. If he throws the bottle with the antidote out of the window in his rage, or drops it through agitation or weakness and it breaks, then he will die. But he would also die, if he merely looked at the bottle or held it in his hand. He needs to take the serum - nothing else will help!

The salvation that God offers frees people from the guilt, the dominion and the eternal consequences of sin. It is "great salvation", for

1. its Originator, the One who brought it about is great,
2. the means by which it was brought about is great,
3. the effect and extent of this salvation is great.

How high the price paid for this salvation was, how great the misery from which we are relieved, and how rich it has made us cannot be described in words.

I do not have to have committed numerous or grave sins to be lost. I simply have to sit still and do nothing, when Jesus speaks to me. I leave the door shut, when He is outside wanting to save me. I just ignore Him. That is enough. But if I act in this way, how shall I escape from judgment? Who will support me, or who can I rely on in that case?

Today's reading: Judges 5:12-31 · 2 Corinthians 5:1-9

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
