Simon Peter replies by faith

Who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Matthew 16:15.16.

Simon Peter replies by faith
Many people followed Jesus after experiencing His help in their particular situation. However, when Jesus spoke of His death and their personal responsibility before God, they said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?" And they left Him. Then Jesus asked His disciples if they would also go away. Peter answered for all: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (John 6:60.67-69).

On a later occasion Jesus asked, "Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?" His disciples reported that people thought highly of Him. Then He asked them personally, "But who do you say that I am?" Again, it was Peter who answered; "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." It was not his own conclusion: God, the Father, had revealed it to him (Matthew 16:13-17).

Now that Peter had confessed Him as "Christ, the Son of the living God", Jesus again referred to the changing of his name from Simon to Peter. He said, "You are Peter (a stone); and on this rock (Greek: petra) I will build my church" The church was thus built on the rock - on the fact and the confession that Jesus is the Son of the living God.

Peter himself later explained that he and all other believers had come to Jesus Christ, the "living stone", and "as living stones" they had been built up to a spiritual house, the church or assembly (1 Peter 2:4.5).

Today's reading: Judges 6:28-40 · 2 Corinthians 6:11-18

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
