The sermon at the coal mine (2)

The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.
John 6:37.

The sermon at the coal mine (2)
Some miners were waiting for their weekly pay packet. To pass the time, they told their colleague Fred to preach a short sermon. They had heard that he had turned religious.

Fred said: "I remembered the word that Jesus Christ spoke to Saul of Tarsus: ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.' I noticed that God was speaking to me personally by it. Then two more texts from the Bible occurred to me that I had heard from my mother: ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' and also the sentence: ‘The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.'

Light shone into my soul, for I had been persecuting Jesus, abusing and mocking His Name. But on my way home I came to Him and confessed my sins. Now I know that He received me and that I am saved.

Boys, I am no preacher, but I wish I could reach your hearts and get you to know that wonderful Saviour. He has helped me to speak to you, and He is telling you: ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.' Jesus means Saviour. And just as He saved Saul the persecutor, He saved me. And He'll do the same for you."

Fred's sermon was over. In the silence that followed one of the miners said, "Fred, you mentioned that Jesus said: ‘The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.' I now say before you all that I, too, want to come to Him."

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
