Prolonging life

You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

James 4:14; 1 John 5:11.

Prolonging life
For many years people have been passionately trying to counter old age. Faced with the increasing desire to stay young, living longer, scientists, therapeutists and businessmen have been engaged on finding means of slowing the ageing process that leads to death.

They forget one essential thing: God alone is the Master over our life. He determines its duration. "With you is the fountain of life" (Psalm 36:9). "In him (God) we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28). Let us pay attention to the Word of God. Its promises and warnings challenge us. It alone tells us how to obtain eternal life. God grants it to all who on earth believe that Christ died for their sins.

How many years of human efforts have you spent hoping personally to prolong you life? And what will follow? "It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). It is not our purpose to make you fear death, although it is a reality, but to tell you what Jesus said concerning death: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:25.26).

Today's reading: Judges 16:23-31 · Psalms 73:18-28

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
