Every man for himself!

There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Acts 4:12.

Every man for himself!
About forty years ago a fire broke out in the store-room in a refinery in Feyzin, near Lyon in France. It was a major disaster and all the security services of the district were summoned with several fire brigades. All those men were at their post and did their best.

Among the responsible employees of the refinery there were some who regretted not being able to benefit from the experience of a colleague who had been at Feyzin for a long time and was now employed in Toulouse. Suddenly the boss, unable to restrain himself any longer, contacted the man by telephone. That seemed senseless and a waste of time. But the specialist responded. By means of a taxi, a plane and another taxi he arrived at the spot. He was hardly there when he heard a characteristic noise coming from a petroleum tank. Without losing any time, he shouted "Every man for himself!" They believed him. All the rescuers left the place hurriedly. A minute later the tank exploded with causing any casualties.

Writing this leaf, I wonder whether I am not in a situation something like that unknown person. I won't say "Every man for himself!" This expression implies some uncertainty. Is it a matter of the ability to escape? By the grace of God I can say, "Escape if you want to!" The Bible states: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). There is no uncertainty or reservation in what God says. But time is running out. We need to accept Jesus as our Saviour at once.

Today's reading: Judges 20:1-48 · Psalms 76:1-12

SUBSTITUTION

Another way God executes deliverance is by the law of substitution. Proverbs 11:8 says,
"The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead. "

At oftentimes, if a particular incident that has been slated against the righteous must surely be carried out, God gives the captor...More
