In the light of God the robber on the...

This man has done nothing wrong.
Luke 23:41.

In the light of God the robber on the cross recognised not only himself, but also the Person hanging alongside him. He became aware of the moral distance between him and the Lord, although the natural eye could distinguish nothing at that moment. Even if the Lord hung on the cross as one condemned, the robber acknowledged His innocence.

Not only that! "This man has done nothing wrong." This utterance went further than the testimonies of Judas, Pilate and all the others. Judas Iscariot stated that he had "sinned by betraying innocent blood" (Matthew 27:4). Pilate had testified, "I have found no fault in this man" (Luke 23:14). The robber's words express the moral perfection of the Lord Jesus.

Grace gave that robber faith and light:

Although the glory of the crucified One was concealed by His humiliation, he recognised Him as the Lord.

Although Jesus was wearing a crown of thorns, the robber appealed to Him as the rightful King of the coming kingdom.

Although there was no escape from death on the cross for him, it was a reality that the Lord would come in His kingdom.

How quickly the Spirit of God had worked in his soul. He spoke as if he had known the Lord Jesus for many years. Whereas so many others had given vent to their derision, that man witnessed the perfection of the Man Christ Jesus: "This man has done nothing wrong."

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 6:33-81 · Psalms 81:1-8

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
