The barometer (2)

Then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Luke 21:27.

The barometer (2)
Jesus Christ, the Son of man, will come again! Definite signs, that God has given us like a barometer, will precede His return to this earth. In the context of these verses the Lord Jesus mentions both "signs in the sun, in the moon and in the stars" and also the roaring of the sea besides perplexity and distress among the nations. People will not come to grips with the world's problems (vv. 25.26).

Climate change and its consequences, the rising sea level for example, then global, financial and economic crises, and finally terrorism and increasing surveillance by the state are developments that already cause people anxiety. Jesus told people to observe the beginning of these occurrences (v. 28). The worse these conditions become, the more helpless they make people and teach them to fear. The barometer of the Bible has long since indicated "storm"!

If we consider what the apostle Paul prophesied, things become even clearer. A falling away from faith is a sign of the last times. That is now being fulfilled! The majority of people in Christian countries now say, "We will not have this man to reign over us!" (Luke 19:14). They reject not only the biblical standard of good and evil, but also Jesus Christ Himself. And they do not take the barometer warnings seriously (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:3).

How important it is therefore that every individual doesn't blindly follow others into perdition, but, like Captain Oldrey on the Hyacinth, takes precautions in time!

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

As a bona fide member of the Kingdom of God, you must be a proof of His power to save. Matthew 1:21 says Jesus shall save His people from sin.

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
