Christians can rejoice with gratitude for...

Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

Hold fast what you have, that no-one may take your crown.

2 Timothy 1:13.14; Revelation 3:11.

Christians can rejoice with gratitude for all that contributes to stemming the ever rising tide of unbelief and sin. However, in the struggle against evil, scriptural boundaries must not be ignored. This danger comes about especially when our attention concentrates on one particular wrong. We must take care to observe all that has been committed to us, so that we surrender nothing, but keep His Word in all things and do not deny "His Name", who is holy, who is true" (Revelation 3:7.8).

Whatever comes from God and corresponds to His Word must be observed wherever it occurs and whoever is used by God for His purpose. But it would not be of God if anything good were used to bend or erase the truth so as to draw us away from the obedience that we owe to the Lord Jesus.

"Hold fast what you have!" This word tests our heart, but it also encourages us to be faithful to the Lord. Let us therefore not strive to obtain man's approval, but that of the Lord Jesus. There is a crown for whoever firmly holds what he has. The enemy tries to rob us of this crown, not with the intention of giving it to others, but to withhold from the Lord Jesus what His redeemed owe Him.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 12:20-40 · Psalms 86:1-8
