Salvation

He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters.
Psalm 18:16.

Salvation
In today's verse from the book of psalms David makes use of an impressive illustration to describe God's way of salvation. He regards himself as being in a flood of water and about to drown. Then God stretches out His mighty hand , grasps him and pulls him out of the water.

Doesn't that illustrate aptly the salvation we experience when we are converted? We were in a torrential river, floundering and being drawn further and further away from God. Our sins were drawing us into the depths. We were being swept unstoppably towards eternal perdition.

Then we heard the gospel of grace: it is not God's will that we should be lost. We heard about Jesus Christ, who came to this world to save sinners. When we called out to Him by faith, He stretched out His hand and drew us out of the water to set our feet on an unshakeable rock. We now know from the Word of God that condemnation no longer awaits us. We have been saved for time and eternity.

This illustration of David's also depicts God's salvation in a life of faith. We constantly experience situations that overtax us. We seemingly sink in problems. But we can then call upon the Lord, who will hold out His hand, gripping us firmly, so that we are not submerged in our troubles. We can be assured that He will bring us through all difficulties to the heavenly goal.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 29:1-9 · 1 Timothy 4:7-16

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
