Stations in the life of Jesus: (1) Bethlehem

Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
Luke 2:15.

Stations in the life of Jesus: (1) Bethlehem
Bethlehem is six miles south of Jerusalem in the mountains of Judea. Here the virgin Mary gave birth to a child, as the angel Gabriel had announced to her: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore also that holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God" (ch.1:35). The place of the birth had already been prophesied by Micah seven centuries before (ch: 5:1).

Angels announced the birth of the Redeemer to the shepherds of Bethlehem. We, too, will now go there and see what came to pass there. Who the Child was is revealed in three names:

Jesus, which means: the Lord is salvation. The Jewish people had awaited the Messiah, their Saviour, for a long time. Now He was there. And God's plan of salvation goes far beyond Israel's frontiers. In Jesus Christ God offers His salvation and forgiveness to all. For that reason the Son of God became Man in Bethlehem, so that He could die on the cross of Calvary for sins (cf. Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:23).
Emmanuel, which means God with us. God has come to us in Jesus Christ. He enters the sphere and circumstances of our lives. He is not a God far distant from us, but "with us" (Matthew 1:23).
Son of the Highest and Son of God. Within the Godhead He has been the Son eternally. But on earth, too, and already in childhood in Bethlehem He was the Son of God. He revealed God to mankind (Luke 1:32.35).

(to be continued on Saturday)

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
