Once again a Christian was...

Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:5.

Once again a Christian was arrested in China for assisting in the distribution of Bibles. Later he said, "I really felt that I had to learn something. God wanted to prepare me for a special task: I was to witness for Him. So He brought me into this situation. I first had to get to know Him better. So I did not feel that to be punishment."

What a remarkable reaction! That Christian's wish was to get to know his God better every day despite the difficult circumstances. So he did not set about making life as comfortable as possible for himself and arranging things as he thought best. Above all; he made sure that his personal relationship to God, his faith in Him and trust in God's power characterised his life.

What is the basis of our own conduct? Our own strength and opinion? The wisdom of other people? Or do we also have living faith brought about through God's power and relying on it? We can be clear about this if we ask ourselves:

Is my joy based on my own activity, or on God and the death of His crucified Son?
Do I plan things according to my own judgment, or do I inquire after the will of God?
Am I guided in life by a worldly attitude to every matter, or is God's mind important to me?
The Lord Jesus appeals to us: "Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22).

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 5:1-14 · 2 Timothy 2:7-13

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
