October 30, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 11:16-35 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:20-21 Repentance: a change of heart In the gospel of Mark, the first words of the Lord Jesus were a call to repentance: "Repent, and believe in the gospel." The first Christians also called for repentance (cf. the above verses). But exactly what is repentance, and why does the Bible place such importance on it? Let us state precisely from the start that repentance is not self-inflicted punishment to expiate one's wrongs. It is not mere sadness or regret, though these play a part. It is returning full of hope to the God who is just and ready to save, and who calls on us to turn to Him (cf. ). It causes me to make a rightabout turn. Instead of following my own will, I decide to do God's will and practise what the Bible says. In God's sight, repentance is the result of faith in the good news of His forgiveness. |

It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More |
