Christian faith – believing, then knowing

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith we
understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.

We are always confident, for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Hebrews 11:1.3; 2 Corinthians 5:6.7.

Christian faith - believing, then knowing
A small group of children have met to study the Bible. Their teacher plans to speak about faith.
He reads the beginning of the 11th chapter of the epistle to the Hebrews, then takes his car key
out of pocket and show the group his clenched fist.

He asks them this question: "What have I got in my hand?" The children look puzzled and give no
answer. Then he says, "I have a key in my hand," and asks them again, "Who knows what I have in
my hand?" There is a moment of silence, then the youngest boy raises his hand and says, "I know:
It's a key." - "Right," says the teacher, "You know, because you believe what I said." The
teacher opens his hand and shows them the key.

This true anecdote illustrates several aspects of faith.

  • What we do not know, God knows precisely.

  • By means of His Word, the Bible, God reveals what He wants us to know.

  • Whoever puts his trust in God (that is faith) believes what He says and accepts the facts
    that He has made known.

  • One day faith will be transformed into sight, but at the present time we know by faith.

Refusing to believe what God states in the Bible is tantamount to calling Him a liar and
offending Him. "Without faith it is impossible to please him" (Hebrews 11:6). So let us believe
what God has declared concerning His Son Jesus Christ: "God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in His Son" (1 John 5:11). "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life" (John 3:36).

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
