Like so many other psalms Psalm 110 speaks...

The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies my footstool.
Psalm 110:1.

Like so many other psalms Psalm 110 speaks prophetically of the Lord Jesus. His glory as the elevated Man at God's right hand, His authority as ruler and judge and His eternal priesthood are the subjects of this psalm.

Today's verse shows the place that God has given the Man Christ Jesus: the place of honour at His right hand. What touches our hearts especially is the fact that the Lord Jesus was elevated so high because of His humiliation. It is God's response to the humiliation and rejection that the Lord suffered here below.

God's concern is always the honour due to His Son. Whatever men may think of Him, rejecting Him and having a low opinion of Him, God will have His Son honoured and glorified. For this reason God gave Him the place at His right hand when the work of redemption was accomplished. This highest place assures the Lord the right to reign over the entire universe. "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth", He rightly said after His resurrection (Matthew 28:18).

The Lord is, however, still waiting for God to place all His enemies at His feet. Then the despised, rejected Jesus of Nazareth will ascend His own throne in Jerusalem, where the seat of His government over the earth will be. The glory and honour that God intended for His Son will be visible to all. Then no-one will be able to lay a hand on Him; everyone will bow down before Him.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 34:1-33 · Revelation 20:7-15
