The last day of your life

It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

What will you do in the end?

Hebrews 9:27; Jeremiah 5:31.

The last day of your life
"What would you do, if you had only one more day to live?" This question was put to a class of 16-17-year-old pupils in a divinity lesson.

The answers were to remain anonymous, but would be read out publicly. Each one could therefore write his thoughts freely. Here are a few samples:

"I would terrorise the whole town in an attempt to stifle my own terror. Then I would finally hide in a corner through my fear of death."

"Owing to the gravity of that date I would not do anything foolish. I might perhaps seek to make peace with God."

"I would not pray to God at any rate, for up to now I have not troubled about Him."

One answer contrasted strongly against the others and was listened to in complete silence:

"I would continue my life as peaceably as before, for Jesus Christ has forgiven my sins. That is why I am able to live my last day without any fear."

Such peace the Lord Jesus would dearly give to all. He has said: "Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). With Him we can unburden ourselves of our load of sins, by confessing them sincerely. We experience God's forgiveness and receive His assurance that we shall spend eternity with Him. Such certainty delivers believers from any fear of death.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 35:16-27 · Revelation 21:15-27

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
