The Saviour – then and now

When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.
Luke 4:40

The Saviour - then and now
When Jesus Christ worked in Israel, He helped all who came to Him with their problems. He healed the sick, freed the demon-possessed and fed the hungry. Even today, He is still willing to help anyone in need. It is true that He no longer lives on earth but in heaven. Nevertheless, His offer is still valid: "Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). To come to Him means to believe in Him and to draw near to Him through prayer.

The Saviour made many sick people well at that time to make clear the main reason for His coming: "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance" (Luke 5:31-32).

Thus, to this day, the Son of God is concerned with the eternal salvation of lost people. He calls them to turn from their sinful way of life and believe in Him. All may come to Him with their burden of sin and unload it on Him with a simple confession. Thereby their conscience finds rest.

Jesus Christ created the prerequisite for this salvation through His death. He gave His life on the cross to wipe out before God the guilt of all those who havewould personally believe in Him. They can happily confess today: "The chastisement for our peace was upon Him" (Isaiah 53:5).

Today's reading: Numbers 9:1-14 · Matthew 6:24-34

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
