Jesus Christ is coming again!

And at midnight a cry was heard: Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!
Matthew 25:6

Jesus Christ is coming again!
In Matthew 25, the Lord Jesus tells the parable of ten bridesmaids who were waiting for the bridegroom. When he failed to appear they fell asleep. At midnight they were awakened by a loud cry, "Behold the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!"

What does this story have to tell us? At the beginning of the Christian era, believers were eagerly waiting for the Lord to come again. A beautiful example of this is the Christians in Thessalonica who turned to God to serve Him and await His Son Jesus Christ from the heavens (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10).

But over time, this expectation waned among believers, so that the truth about the coming of the Lord at the Rapture was gradually forgotten. That led to Christians lacking a heavenly hope - their lives were only focussed on earth.

About 200 years ago, however, God made sure that the Christian hope of the Lord's coming became known once again. Since then, we have been able to regularly remind each other of the promise of Jesus Christ: "I am coming quickly". Indeed, all our expectation is centred on His glorious person:

We wait for Him who once laid down His life out of love for us.
We wait for Him who now wants to be the joy and object of our lives.
We wait for Him whom we shall see in heaven and adore forever.

Today's reading: Numbers 11:1-9 · Matthew 7:24-29

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
