But you must continue!

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them.
2 Timothy 3:14

But you must continue!
In today's Bible verse, every Christian is personally instructed to abide in what he has learned from the Bible, especially from the New Testament. What this means in concrete terms is illustrated by two examples:

You have learned from the Word of God that a redeemed person cannot be lost because the Lord has promised: "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand" (John 10:28). Unfortunately, however, people in the Christian profession claim that you cannot be sure of your salvation. When you are confronted with this, it is important to stand firm and hold on to your eternal acceptance with God.
You have understood that in the Bible God makes separation from evil a prerequisite for believers to have fellowship with Him. "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you" (2 Corinthians 6:17). Unfortunately, many Christians today ignore this and enter into inappropriate associations with the world. Do not follow them but continue to live apart from evil! Then you will experience the joy of fellowship with God.
These two examples show that both in doctrine and in practice it is a matter of clinging to the Word of God. Often this will involve swimming against the current of the great masses, for the apostle Paul says: But you must continue!

Today's reading: Numbers 15:1-21 · Matthew 10:16-31

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
