Thoughts on the Gospel of John (127)

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me. Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke.
John 13:20-22

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (127)
Once again, the Lord refers to feet-washing by means of His Word. But this time He does not put the responsibility on those who perform the task; now it is about the one who receives this service.

Calling someone's attention to his wrongdoing in love with the help of God's Word is not easy. It requires courage and especially humility. But it is just as difficult to accept correction. Who likes to be ‘spoken to'? There, too, a humble attitude is required. So if God's children want to benefit spiritually from each other, they will readily examine every corrective suggestion to see whether it comes from their Lord in heaven.

The Lord now lets us see how distressed He is that Judas was going to betray Him. The thought that one of His confidants would hand Him over to His enemies does not leave Him unmoved (cf. Psalm 55:12-14). His love could not bear it. What a terrible end Judas would come to!

None of the disciples was sinless, but this horrible act would only be committed by one who was not one of "his own" but who belonged to the devil.

Judas knew exactly that the Lord meant him, but he kept the other disciples in perplexity to the very end. His hypocrisy was about to reach its climax.

Today's reading: Numbers 28:1-31 · Matthew 15:21-28

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
