November 5, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 13:1-21 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24 Is it possible to lose eternal life? To answer this question, a few passages from the Word of God are helpful: "These things have I written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:13). Then we are reminded of the words of the Lord Jesus Himself, which John recorded in his gospel: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life" (John 6:47). Moreover, the Lord says of all who believe in Him sincerely: "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no-one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand" (John 10:27-29). All who have found faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are "born of God" and "born of the Spirit" (). They can therefore be assured of their possession of eternal life. The apostle Paul tells us: "Your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you will appear with him in glory" (Colossians 3:3-4). How could a born again, believing Christian be lost, if he is inseparably bound to Christ, His life? Our Saviour, who died and rose again, is now with God in the glory of heaven. That is the guarantee that all God's children will reach their heavenly goal. |
