This man, reported in the Acts of the...

And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning.
Acts 8:27–28

This man, reported in the Acts of the Apostles, occupied a position of considerable importance. Not only did he have to manage the huge treasures of his queen, but he was certainly wealthy himself.

And yet – deep down he was missing something; otherwise he would not have made the arduous journey to Jerusalem to get to know the true God there. Unfortunately, he had not been able to find Him in the temple of Jerusalem either, despite all its splendour and many rituals. Possibly a bit disappointed, the chamberlain started his journey home.

However, he had brought one treasure with him from Jerusalem: the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He read it on his way back, but he was having trouble understanding what he read.

God saw this man’s heart and his inner emptiness, so He put Philip the evangelist in his path. He got on the chariot and explained to him the 53rd chapter of the book of the prophet Isaiah, which the man was reading. Philip was able to show him that it was about the Lord Jesus Christ, who as the Lamb of God endured the judgment of God for guilty people.

The eunuch accepted this good news in faith and was then able to continue his journey cheerfully because he had found the Saviour.

Religious forms and rituals, as beautiful and splendid as they may be, cannot give anyone inner peace and eternal happiness. That is to be found in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, alone.

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 2:14-25 · Matthew 20:17-28

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
