The lifesaver

The Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

The lifesaver
Wesley Autrey, a 50-year-old construction worker, was waiting for the next train at an underground station. Then the young student Cameron Hollopeter, who was standing right next to him, suddenly had an epileptic seizure and fell off the platform directly onto the tracks. The lights of the approaching underground were already visible. Nevertheless, Autrey didn’t hesitate for a second and jumped after him.

As he didn’t have enough time to hoist the student back onto the platform, he pulled him into the ditch between the tracks and lay protectively on top of him. Although the train driver braked immediately, two carriages whizzed over the two of them, just inches from Wesley Autrey’s head. The undercarriage left dirty streaks on his cap – signs of his rescue operation. This brave man risked his life to save from death someone he didn’t know at all.

About 2,000 years ago, there was a man who went so much further than this to help others. Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross to save lost people. Everyone who now believes in Him can say: The Lord Jesus gave His life there out of love for me. He died to save me from divine judgment and to give me new life.

Wesley Autrey was honoured for his heroic deed. Faithful Christians give thanks to their Saviour for eternity. With their whole life they want to honour Him!

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 4:1-14 · Matthew 21:18-22

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
