John the Baptist

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
John 1:6

John the Baptist
Today’s Bible verse begins the story of John the Baptist in this Gospel. What we read of him here we can well apply to ourselves.

“There was a man.” John came into the world, lived as a child and grew into a grown man. He was a human being like you and me. But he had a personal relationship with God. That made his life meaningful. Maybe you see yourself as just an ordinary person. Then don’t forget that through faith in the Lord Jesus you are a redeemed person who is very precious to God.

“Sent from God.” John the Baptist had understood early on that his whole life belonged to God. That is why he placed himself at His disposal. He was ready to be sent by God to serve Him. How, when and where, he left to God. Have you already decided to live for your Saviour? He wants to send you into the world as His witness so that others may know Him too.

“Whose name was John.” This name means, “The Lord is gracious”. From this we can see that it was only God’s grace that led to John being sent to witness to and serve Him. That is why he considered it a privilege simply to be the voice of one calling (John 1:23). Whether the Lord gives you a small commission or a great commission, you deserve neither. Everything is grace!

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 4:29-49 · Matthew 21:33-46

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
