November 9, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 17 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever. Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 3:12-13 Welcomed with outstretched arms The three parts of the parable in the 15th chapter of Luke's gospel show with what untiring love God goes after lost, sinful people. The Shepherd, who found his lost sheep, did not complain of tiredness. He did not reproach himself. He did not think of himself at all, but laid the sheep carefully and joyfully on his shoulders. It was not too heavy for him to carry back home. The one who had lost a coin swept the house and searched eagerly. She simply had to find again. And when she found it, she spoke of it gladly. How moving was the reception of the prodigal son! "When he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him" (v.20). The father did not send a servant to welcome the son on his return. He went out himself to take him in his arms and forgive him all the wrong he had done. The way God forgives everyone who turns to Him sincerely causes no fear to arise in the heart. So why should we doubt that God will forgive absolutely? His arms are outstretched to receive the lost. God points us to the cross of Calvary, to the basis of forgiveness. He tells us that all that was necessary for our salvation was accomplished there. So we need only to rely fully on Christ and His atoning death. |

Open Heavens for Friday, February 28, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More |

Luke 2:45 We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More |
