Different kinds of grace

For it is good that the heart be established by grace.
Hebrews 13:9

Different kinds of grace
Grace for the journey of faith: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:3; Philippians 1:2). The apostle Paul uses exactly the same wording in his greeting to the believers in Corinth and Philippi. He wishes grace and peace to both. From this it becomes clear that we are dependent on God’s grace both in a bad spiritual condition like the Corinthians and in a good condition like the Philippians. It is available to us for every step of the journey of faith.
Grace for the married and unmarried: “For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that” (1 Corinthians 7:7). Paul possessed the grace from God to remain unmarried. He had no need of it. However, God leads most Christians into marriage. They also receive His grace for this.
Grace for ministry: “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith” (Romans 12:6). The Lord wants to use you and me for service. In His grace He gives us the spiritual abilities to do so. Therefore, a gift of grace is never a reason to take credit for oneself. When it is exercised, it is always to glorify the Lord Jesus who has given it by grace.

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 13:1-19 · Matthew 26:1-16

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
