The heart of man

I will give you a new heart.
Ezekiel 36:26

The heart of man
When the Bible speaks of the heart, it is usually not about the organ that pumps our blood through our arteries and veins. Almost always, the “heart” is about the seat of our affections or the place where we make our decisions.

God’s judgment on the human heart does not correspond to the widespread opinion that man has a good core. On the contrary! In Jeremiah 17:9–10 He says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart”. He sees evil, envious, greedy and covetous thoughts arising in the heart, leading to sin and unrighteousness in life.

Thankfully, God does not stop at this finding. He also has a remedy in which He gives man a new heart. He is ready to forgive and to cleanse. What does He expect of us? God asks us to repent of our sinful lives and believe that His Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for our salvation. Then the Holy Spirit of God dwells in us and gives us eternal life.

As a result, we possess a new nature that loves to do what pleases God. It is true that the old nature still remains in us and also still produces evil thoughts. But through the power of His Spirit we are now able to reject those thoughts and occupy ourselves with what is good and pleases God.

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 18:1-22 · Matthew 27:27-38

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
