Perhaps someone thinks, “That’s not...

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:39

Perhaps someone thinks, “That’s not possible! A storm doesn’t calm down simply because some person calls out to it, ‘Peace, be still!’” No, of course not! But it wasn’t just anyone who did that; it was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Himself.

People like us would have made ourselves look ridiculous with such an attempt to calm the wind and the waves. But here was One whom the wind and waves obeyed. This could only be the Almighty God! The disciples of Jesus, who took Him by ship to the other shore of the lake, were deeply impressed by this.

To appreciate this, we must know that the Son of God is the One through whom God made the world – as we read in Colossians 1:16 and in many other places in the Holy Scriptures. Therefore, why would it be too difficult for the Creator of the universe to silence a storm? Why should He not be able to make good wine out of water, or to heal the sick, or to satisfy 5,000 people with little means, or to raise the dead, or ...?

Many people at that time were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ miracles. Matthew, the tax collector, Mark, the servant, Luke, the physician, and John, the fisherman, all wrote down their observations for us. And they have told us only a selection of His miracles. John says this in his Gospel: “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples” (ch. 20:30). There is no reason not to trust these witnesses. Let us assume that the almighty Creator God exists. Then He must be above everything and then miracles are no problem for Him.

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 31:19-29 · Ephesians 1:9-14

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
