Bring your problems to Jesus!

Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.
Mark 1:29–30

Bring your problems to Jesus!
This is an impressive thing about the Bible: that it also mentions the dark side of life – suffering, failure and death.

One day, Jesus Christ was staying in the city of Capernaum with some of His disciples. He first visited the synagogue and then went to Simon and Andrew’s home. There, however, Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with fever. Luke, who was a physician, even writes that she was “stricken with a strong fever” (Luke 4:38).

Today, a person’s relationship with their mother-in-law is often portrayed as negative. But here we see Simon and Andrew treating her with great appreciation and being very concerned about her. Yes, then as now, healthy relationships are possible in families – with God’s help!

However, the home of Simon and Andrew was not spared from hardship. We, too, often experience illness, unemployment, old age, abuse, and financial or even psychological hardship. Some hardship even goes to the brink of death – with no apparent way out. Let’s do as Simon and Andrew did back then: let’s tell Jesus!

The Lord over life and death, the great Creator-God, the Saviour of the world, is willing and ready to hear what is troubling us. He invites us to tell Him our distress, because He is concerned about us! Moreover, we may tell Him all our concerns – without special religious language, simply speaking directly to Him, with complete confidence. As here: “They told Him about her”. It is good to know Him, the One to whom we can tell everything!

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 31:30-32:14 · Ephesians 1:15-23

Know When To Say Nothing

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.' Isaiah 50:4 NIV

Isaiah writes: The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.'

Let's face it;...More
