Everyone knows that they will...

No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, and no one has power in the day of death.
Ecclesiastes 8:8

A 63-year-old man had a new denture fitted. The following conversation ensued:

Patient: “The old dental bridge lasted 25 years!”

Dentist: “I hope the new one lasts just as long.”

Patient: “If I last that long ...”

Dentist: “Yes, that’s the anxious question we all face.”

Patient: “I believe in Jesus Christ, so that lets me rest easy.”

Dentist: “Yes, I understand that. That’s what it says in the reading you gave me last time.”

Everyone knows that they will have to die one day. But no one can determine the day of their death. The dentist had read about how Christians, while being uncertain about the time of death, have peace and rest through faith in Jesus Christ.

But it is not enough to read about it or to observe in others what biblical faith does: you must come to Jesus Christ yourself through being convinced by the message of the Bible. Because of our sins He died, and He rose again to give us eternal life.

Whoever believes in Him and personally claims His redemptive act may say, “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in Your hand” (Psalm 31:14–15). No matter what may come and when we are called away, we are then secure in Him.

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 4:1-11 · Ephesians 5:8-21

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
