God and His Word

So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace.
Acts 20:32

God and His Word
In his farewell words to the Christians in Ephesus, the apostle Paul warned them of the dangers that lurked on the common path of faith. On the one hand, people would enter the circle of believers like ravening wolves and not spare the flock. On the other hand, people from among the Christians would rise up to draw the disciples away from the Lord Jesus with perverse teachings. In the face of these dangers, the apostle commended the believers to God and to the word of His grace.

We know that it came to pass in Christendom just as Paul had predicted. The enemy has invaded the people of God and introduced false teachings. The question is: How can we be preserved on the path of faith in spite of opposition and seduction? Only through the two sources of help that the apostle presented at that time and that we still have today:

Through the Almighty God, who has become our Father. We can pray to Him at any time and entrust ourselves to His protection. He has the power to preserve us without stumbling and to bring us to our goal. In His love He cares for the spiritual welfare of His children.
Through the written Word of God, which reveals His grace to us. The Bible instructs us about the decay in Christendom and shows us the path to take for the glory of the Lord. It directs our thoughts to the grace that we may daily claim for ourselves.

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 10:1-12 · Psalms 92:1-16

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
