It is certainly not very often that a full...

Then Jesus said … “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31–32

It is certainly not very often that a full professor of theology comes to a living faith in God. She says of herself that she used to fully advocate biblical critical theology. She was convinced that with her theological work she would be doing God a service and contributing to the proclamation of the gospel. But in doing so, she had made philosophies her foundation that excluded God’s Word as the source of truth.

God, however, did not let go even of this wise woman. At first, she fell into a spiritual crisis. In “deep frustration,” she became, as she says, “a slave to television” and fell into increasing dependence on alcohol.

In this gloomy mood of the soul, it so happened that she came into contact with living Christians who testified to Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord. She was impressed by these credible testimonies and dared to accept the redemptive work of Christ for herself in faith, and to entrust her life to Him.

With the power of God now coming into her life, it changed radically. She became free from alcohol, gained a whole new approach to God’s Word, and also longed for fellowship with other Christians. Now she recognised that the wrongs she had always previously excused were actually sins.

It is not surprising, then, that she recanted her earlier books and magazine contributions.

A rest is found for all, far and near,
in the wounds of the Lamb of God, on the cross of Calvary.
Eleonore Princess of Reuss (1835–1903)

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 10:13-27 · Psalms 93:1-5

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
