From the weary to the blessed

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

From the weary to the blessed
When Jesus Christ lived on earth and observed people, He saw their problems. As the Son of God, He also recognised the hardships in their lives.

How many troubled people there were: people who tried hard to live a decent life; people who wanted to do God’s commandments. But they had to realise afterwards that they had not succeeded in doing everything right. Through this constant, unsuccessful striving, they became weary. The Lord Jesus saw it and invited them, “Come to Me”.

Then there were also people who liked to live out their lusts and pursue pleasure or a shady occupation. In doing so, they loaded themselves with a burden of guilt. In time, they became overwhelmed. Some of them would have liked to get rid of this burden. The Lord Jesus saw this too and said to them, “Come to Me”.

To the weary one who came to Him, He declared: I will die for you on the cross so that you can be justified for nothing and have a secure place with Me in heaven in the future. To the burdened one He said: In your place I will bear the punishment for your sins on the cross so that you can be saved. Both found rest with the Saviour and great blessing. Of them it is said: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin” (Romans 4:7–8).

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 14:36-52 · Psalms 100:1-5

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
