November 20, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 25 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. Luke 8:54-55 Christ, the Victor over death (2) This report of the raising of Jairus' daughter also provides us with some important teaching. The young girl was "sleeping the sleep of death", when the Lord entered the house. Of God it is said, however, "All live to him" . The Son of God thus regarded the child as a living soul and could say, "She is not dead, but sleeping." The ridicule of the spectators was silenced, once He gave the proof that the dead girl had been brought back to life through His divine power. Then the Son of God ordered the parents to give their daughter some food. What loving care for the child! But what an important duty it is for the parents! No-one can live without food; so it was the task of the nearest relatives to see that the new life was nourished. Until today, Jesus Christ has been granting sinners new life. It is the duty of those who already possess that life to nourish the "child in the faith" at once with the Word of God, the "bread of heaven". Such a tender plant in the faith needs attention daily, so that it grows. Parents take care to give their children the food they need according to their age. So it is, too, in our spiritual life. Every believer needs the Word of God as regular nourishment for the soul. (to be concluded tomorrow) |

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. (Luke 24:26-27) Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves as...More |

This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More |
