Thoughts on the Gospel of John (140)

These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:25–27

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (140)
In today’s verses, let us notice the two expressions “these things” and “all”. When Jesus was here on earth, He had already shared many things with the disciples. But He could not talk about everything because the disciples could not then understand everything, for the Holy Spirit did not yet dwell in believers.

Ten days after Jesus’ ascension, the time had come. God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to earth. He taught the apostles “all things” – everything that the Lord had not previously been able to communicate to them. This includes Christ’s place at the right hand of God and everything connected with it: spiritual blessings in the heavenly realm, the assembly (church) that is His body … all the way to the new heavens and the new earth. The “all things” are laid down in the letters of the New Testament and in the Book of Revelation.

Nothing concerning Christ would be lost. Therefore, the Holy Spirit would also remind the disciples of “all things” that the Lord had told them. Thus, the four Gospels are not a product of an imperfect and fallible memory, but are God’s perfect Word.

Then the Lord speaks about two kinds of peace:

He died to leave us peace (with God).

He “gives” believers His own peace of heart – but without giving it away so as to have less of it Himself.

All who are connected to the Lord in heaven may consider themselves wonderfully blessed!

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 17:55-18:9 · Psalms 104:27-35

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
