Liberator and saviour

Then David said to him, To whom do you belong, and where are you from? And he said, I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick.
1 Samuel 30:13

Liberator and saviour
On a military campaign, David found a young man half-starved and almost dying of thirst. After giving him food and drink, he asked him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” This question is figuratively addressed to all people today. Everyone needs to determine for themselves where they stand.

In the answer that the young man gives, we recognise two indications of the situation of a person who is living without God and Jesus Christ:

“I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite.” Although many see themselves as free men, they are slaves to their own lusts. The Son of God confirms it, “Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” But then He makes a glorious offer to all: “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:34, 36). Those who believe in Jesus Christ and surrender their lives to Him are set free from the slavery of sin.
“My master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick.” People who are living in misery through their sinful ways experience abandonment by others. However, there is One who is there for them and wants to help them: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Romans 10:13 says: “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 17:1-14 · 2 Thessalonians 3:6-18

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
