The woman is sick; she is...

Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment.
Mark 5:25–27

The woman is sick; she is suffering. And she has been for a long time – a sad and obviously hopeless situation. She has consulted many doctors, and suffered through them even more. Her health, or rather her illness, has cost her a lot, namely her entire fortune. Nothing is left to her – nothing except her illness. And with it, things have not become better, but “rather … worse”.

Now she hears about the Lord Jesus, about the one who makes people well and who forgives their sins. And she believes and comes and brings Him the misery of her life. (By the way, would she have come if her misery had been less?) She touches Him – only from behind, but still she touches Him – because she is convinced: “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” And she is not disappointed, because “immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.” She knows what has happened to her, and comes and falls down before Him, telling Him “the whole truth”. Yes, she is now well. Not only physically – no, also in soul and spirit. For Jesus says to her, “Go in peace”. And peace means more than just a healthy body!

Hearing ... coming ... touching ... knowing – in this manner the woman experienced a great deliverance.

Sin causes distress in my life – a burden upon my conscience that I can’t get rid of. I hear about Jesus ... come to Him ... trust Him ... and experience His forgiveness.

Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 23:1-12 · John 1:43-51

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
