Watch out for the world!

Do not love the world or the things in the world.
1 John 2:15

Watch out for the world!
For a “landlubber” it is a great experience to go out on the open sea in a ship for the first time. Wherever you look, you see nothing but water. That can certainly trigger an oppressive feeling. But there is no danger at all as long as the ship remains watertight and no water enters at any point. The ship in water is a harmless thing. But water in the ship means death if a hole is not closed quickly or if other help does not appear soon.

In the life of a Christian it is quite similar. He lives in the world and is surrounded by countless dangers. However, they cannot harm him as long as the world does not penetrate his inner being. But as soon as worldly ideas, views and temptations creep into his heart, there is the greatest danger. How quickly he then moves away inwardly from the Lord Jesus and gets on an evil path! If the world has succeeded in penetrating his inner being, the leak must be immediately located and well plugged.

So let us take care that we do not adapt ourselves to wrong habits and perceptions. But how do we know if the world is beginning to intrude into our life of faith? The answer is simple: when we no longer align ourselves exactly with the Word of God. That is why we want to ask again and again in everything: What does the Bible say about this?

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 7:23-37 · John 6:25-35

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
