Frank is studying medicine...

(The apostle Paul said:) I … [testified] to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 20:21

Frank is studying medicine, but in a conversation with twelve-year-old Andrew, that is not his main topic right now. He is explaining the good news of Jesus Christ to the younger boy. Andrew listens attentively and then says, “I’ve made up my mind!” – “And what have you decided to do?” – “To become a Christian, of course,” Andrew replies.

“That’s good,” Frank replies, “but it’s not enough.” And he explains: “When I decided to become a doctor, I didn’t automatically become one that day. I had to put my decision into action and enrol in medical school. That was the only way I was allowed to start a multi-year degree program.”

Frank continues the comparison: “You want to become a Christian, Andrew? Great, but then you also have to take the step that makes you one. And you can take that step in less than five minutes.”

“This step has two aspects. You have committed sins; therefore, repentance is necessary. That means repenting of the sins, forsaking them, and confessing them to God. Then faith is also needed, faith in Jesus Christ, the Mediator who died for sins on the cross. Only when you take that step – when you repent towards God and believe in the atoning death of the Lord Jesus – are you a Christian.”

This explanation helped Andrew to also put his decision into action.

To be a Christian also means following Jesus Christ. Doing His will and serving Him is a life of inner freedom. There is nothing more beautiful!

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 6:18-33 · John 19:1-6
