Just a gust of wind

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He teaches sinners in the way.
Psalm 25:8

Just a gust of wind
In 1999, during the Kosovo war, a village was attacked by a group of armed men. The inhabitants tried to flee with their tractors into the nearby forest. But they were soon surrounded and captured. The attackers set fire to the tractors and dark smoke rose into the sky.

The villagers were to be shot and were lined up in preparation. Then the unexpected happened: the wind suddenly shifted and blew the thick clouds of smoke into the faces of the armed men. They could no longer see anything; cursing and coughing, they fired their rifles in all directions. But they couldn’t prevent the hundred or so prisoners from disappearing into the forest. Many of the villagers later said that God had performed a miracle.

In fact, God, as the Creator, is also the master of the wind. The four Gospels make us marvel at how the wind and waves had to obey the Son of God (Matthew 8:27). And when we see something of His power, compassion, and acts of love for the salvation of mankind, should we speak of “coincidence”? These villagers miraculously escaped death. They came to know that God is kind.

Yes, God is kind. This means that He is good to us without reserve or exception. Each of us will also be able to recall occasions when we experienced God’s goodness in a special way. However, the epilogue in today’s Bible passage is also important: God shows us His goodness because He wants to show us His good way and guide us along it.

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 9:1-16 · John 19:31-42

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
