The Fall of Man (1)

She took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
Genesis 3:6

The Fall of Man (1)
God planted a garden in Eden where all kinds of trees grew with delicious and tasty fruit. In this garden lived the first human beings. To test their obedience, God gave Adam and Eve a commandment: “Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat” (Genesis 2:17).

The serpent, the form that the devil took, tempted the woman to eat of the forbidden fruit. When Eve gave her husband some of this fruit he also ate of it. Because of this disobedience their consciences accused them. That is why they hid from their Creator.

But God did not give them up. He came into the garden and called out, “Where are you?” Then Adam and Eve came out of hiding and admitted to having eaten of the forbidden fruit. They were guilty before God.

In His mercy, God made clothes of skin for the first human couple. An animal had to die so that they could be clothed. We see in this a reference to the death of the Lord Jesus, which is the basis of salvation for sinful people. He died on the cross so that all who believe in Him might receive garments of salvation in which they can freely come before God.

All men have failed in their responsibility to the Creator and have thereby become guilty. But God is ready to pardon everyone who confesses their sins to Him and believes in the Saviour.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 4:1-17 · Psalms 116:1-9

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
